NATIONALS VIEWING PARTY IN JANUARY:

National Figure Skating Academy :: Overview
FMC Arenas, the largest operator of public skating arenas in the country, has always strived to offer quality yet affordable ice skating instruction. This year, FMC has teamed up with 2005 United States Pairs Champion Garrett Lucash to bring this quality to new levels. Together, they have created the National Figure Skating Academy.

Ice skating is a great year round activity for everyone promoting balance and coordination for tots and children; strength, agility, and confidence for the serious competitor; and social and aerobic exercise for adults. Few activities can match the all encompassing healthy benefits of ice skating. Even more importantly is that these skills learned while on the ice also improve off ice activities such as work and school. What could be better than improving responsibility, determination and focus while boosting your family’s wellbeing at the same time? Our classes aim to accomplish this while sprinkling a fun and social environment into the mix!

To accommodate every skater’s goals and needs, the NFSA is divided into two tracks: The Academy Recreational Skating Club and the National Figure Skating Academy. ARSC is for the casual skater while the NFSA is for the more serious athlete. All classes, however, are offered to children and adults alike and taught by highly qualified coaches.
Group Classes
Every major sport and activity from football to ballet has structured practice yet most figure skaters learn in a more expensive private lesson and are left to practice unsupervised where bad habits can develop and be difficult to fix. Learning in Groups provides a more competitive and productive atmosphere. There is more action and each skater can learn from hearing corrections on other students as well. Since the group classes are less expensive than a private one on one lesson the skater can then take more classes to increase development further.
About the NFSA
The National Figure Skating Academy takes figure skating instruction to the next level with a focus on strong basic skills such as edges and steps, jumping, spinning, Pairs & Dance and off ice training. Skaters enrolled in NFSA programming are looking to be a true athlete! U.S. champion, Garrett Lucash and Ukrainian Champion, Dmitry Palamarchuk designed the curriculum for NFSA classes and teach all levels including NFSA Learn to Skate, Fundamentals and Red, White and Blue classes. Both coaches believe in a solid foundation of position and technique’s based on simplicity rather than complexity. While using verbal stimulation Garrett and Dmitry provide visual demonstrations to rapidly increase development. Classes are 45-90 minutes long, 2-6 days a week, in a group atmosphere to develop competitiveness, discipline, and camaraderie. Students, aged 5 through adult, are placed in classes by NFSA instructors based on ability to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. All skaters are encouraged to take advantage of special partnerships with the Boston Ballet and High Performance Sports Center to increase flexibility, explosiveness, and stamina while reducing the risk of injury. Charles River Apparel, the official apparel sponsor of the NFSA makes monthly performance wear donations to eligible NFSA skaters!
About the ARSC
The Academy Recreational Skating Club or ARSC openly invites casual, seasonal and first time skaters from tots through adults to learn to skate. Offered in 5 FMC operated metro area arenas: Lynn, Everett, East Boston, Cambridge, and Revere, ARSC classes provide a casual atmosphere to learn confidence on ice skates. 30 minutes prior to class, coaches will be available to answer questions, help with gear and make sure students are comfortable before entering the ice surface. Tots and beginners will first learn how to fall and stand up safely and then to balance, move forwards, backwards and to stop with confidence. As all skaters progress they will be introduced to more advanced movements and steps. Class runs for 25 minutes with 25 minutes of free time and skates are even provided on a first come first served basis. Helmets are strongly recommended for children as well as gloves, ski pants, and coats or heavy sweatshirts. Classes usually run in 8 week cycles with an average instructor ratio of 10 to 1. Champion skaters Garrett Lucash and Dmitry Palamarchuk teach most tot and beginner classes. ARSC skaters can move into hockey or figure skating and even compete in recreational competitions! They also have the option, at any age, to move into NFSA programming for serious figure skating training.
Testimonials
“My four children look forward to ice skating class with great anticipation. This professional team certainly knows how to motivate children to be their personal best, while, at the same time, making ice skating fun!”
-- Marcia W. | Belmont

"I researched many skating programs when my daughter wanted to skate, I attended your open house, and your program far surpassed the other programs I had looked into, there was no question as to what skating program we where going to put her in.”
-- Kathleen K. | Revere

"My daughter being just five when we signed her up lacked focus and skating ability, The NFSA changed that, I am amazed at her progress and her ability to stay focused, she has come a long way since joining. The NFSA has managed to accomplish so much with her but also making it enjoyable for her…She does not even realize she is working."

“With his enthusiasm and knowledge, Garrett Lucash has created a safe and effective off-ice program to help his skaters maximize their potential on the ice. My daughter thoroughly enjoys Garrett's off-ice sessions."
-- Cyndy B. | Westfield

"As the father of a child that has been attending the NFSA, I would like to say that what Garrett Lucash and Dmitry Palamarchuk have been able to teach her is nothing short of amazing. My daughter, Hailey, NEVER put ice skates on before this year. In just a few short months, she has gained so much ability, both on and off the ice. They have been able to harness her natural ability further than I would have imagined in such a short period of time. Not only has her skating progressed, but her character and maturity have as well. She has gained a wealth of self confidence and has become very proud of what she has accomplished thus far. I expect her progress to continue and look forward to see what she is capable of, thanks to the NFSA.”
-- Joe S. | Everett

“Garrett Lucash has an extraordinary way of coaching his students. My son and daughter have not only technically but also artistically improved as skaters. Garrett is funny, supportive and technically superior in his field. He is a wonderful coach, friend and mentor!”
-- Jeff P. | Southwick

“I was impressed at the well thought out program and future ideas… the dedication and passion you have for the sport shows with the program you have developed. Any child would be very fortunate to attend the NFSA and ARSC. Not only have you developed an outstanding program but you have first hand experience on what it takes to be a skater. Being a National Champion yourself, not only are you able to teach but you can also inform parents or the children what the commitment entails, which could only benefit your skaters.
My niece attends your Academy. I had the opportunity to take her to a lesson and stay for free skate. I was impressed at the progression. I am amazed at what she has accomplished and will accomplish with the NFSA.

I wish you all the best with your continued success. I am breathless with anticipation to see what you come up with next.”
