|
Garrett started skating in Basic Skills programs as most skaters do. As a teenager he was introduced to pairs skating and by the age of 19 qualified to make the United States Figure Skating Team. For the next 10 years Garrett represented the U.S. at international competitions including Jr and Sr Grand Prix events, Jr World Championships, Four Continents Championships and World Figure Skating Championships. He stood on the Podium at the United States National Championships 7 times. In 2005 Garrett and his partner, Katie Orscher, became the National Champions receiving first place votes from all judges in the free program. That same year Garrett and Katie made the podium at the Four Continents Championships in Korea. Garrett has attended numerous Sports and Science camps for
elite athletes at the Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs and Lake
Placid and also trained in St Petersburg, Russia for 1 month with his coach
Vadim Naumov (1994 World Champion). Throughout his career, Garrett trained
along side many World and Olympic Champions and received instruction from
both North American and Eastern European techniques and developed his own
hybrid of the two systems for his students. Garrett designed the curriculum
at the NFSA based on his experiences in the international skating world. |
